Trash and recycling

The short version

EDCO collects trash and recycling on Fridays. Bins go out by the driveway at the rear of your unit. The Association pays for the service, which is why your address does not come up in EDCO’s residential lookup — the account is the HOA’s, not yours.

Holiday schedule

A holiday anywhere in the week moves our collection to Saturday. EDCO does not collect on the holidays it observes, and the delay runs forward through the rest of that week rather than landing on one day: “If your regular service day occurs before a holiday, your service day remains the same,” and every route on or after it slides one. So a Monday holiday bumps the whole week — Thursday’s collection to Friday, ours to Saturday — while a Thursday or Friday holiday moves only the days at the end of it, ours among them. A holiday falling on a Saturday moves nothing.

Those are not inferred: EDCO marks the effect against each date on its own schedule. Labor Day is “One-Day Delay All Week”, Thanksgiving is “One-Day Delay for Thursday & Friday Customers Only”, and the two Friday holidays are each marked a one-day delay for Friday customers only. Independence Day, a Saturday in 2026, is “No Service Delay”.

Not every public holiday is one of EDCO’s. Collection runs as normal on Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday, Lincoln’s Birthday, Presidents’ Day, Washington’s Birthday, Cesar Chavez Day and Veterans’ Day.

EDCO publishes roughly a year at a time and the list above is what they had posted on September 5, 2026, ending at New Year’s Day 2027 — so a week that is not on it is a week to check with them.

Friday or Monday?

Friday. The Rules and Regulations, last revised in January 2011, say Monday:

Trash is currently picked up in individual trashcans at the edge of the driveway at the rear of each unit on Monday of each week and should NOT be put out prior to Monday morning.

Nothing has amended them, so Monday is still what an owner finds in the governing documents — along with the instruction, in the same sentence, not to put bins out before Monday morning. The Rules’ own word is currently.

The Association’s own March/April 2026 newsletter says Friday, and puts recycling on the same day:

Trash pick up is every Friday for both recycle and waste.

Jenn Diaz, a customer service representative for EDCO, responded to an owner inquiry via email on September 4, 2026:

Good afternoon, Yes service days are Fridays.

The owner asked for a written route schedule as well, and did not get one; the reply confirms the day in the words the owner proposed.

The bins

One set per unit, marked with the unit number. A gray trash can and a blue recycling bin. The Rules require the marking and so does the Association:

All trashcans and recycle bins MUST be marked with the unit address, i.e. 1524-B, 971-A etc.

The March/April 2026 newsletter repeats it and adds a consequence: bins without a unit number, or left in the common area, “may be removed”, and the homeowner is then responsible for obtaining a replacement.

If you have none, or the wrong ones

You can contact EDCO directly by phone or email. Expect them to check with management first — the account is the Association’s, and when an owner emailed in March 2026 EDCO’s next step was “I have reached out to the property management for this property to confirm delivery of cans.”

At least one owner has had success this way, for both delivery and removal of bins.

Bulk items

Furniture, mattresses, carpet and appliances are not ordinary collection, and leaving them in the common area is what the Rules prohibit:

The dumping of such things as carpet, furniture, engine oil, building materials, appliances or commercial trash anywhere on the property, including trashcans, is prohibited.

The Association’s position, in the March/April 2026 newsletter, is that extra pickups have “increased to approximately every two weeks” and cost “between $200 and $400 per trip”, and that residents should take large items to the dump themselves.

What the newsletter does not say is which budget line that lands in, and the two candidates behave very differently. At March 31, 2026 refuse removal (account 08150) stood at $12,994.60 against a budget of $12,999.00 — $4.40 under, against an annual budget of $51,996.00.
